Active Covid-19 cases among DOJ personnel rise to 136

MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases among its personnel for this month alone has so far reached 141.

In an update, Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar said the figure can be broken down into 136 active cases and five recoveries.

The figure includes 59 cases from the DOJ main office in Manila; 61 cases from DOJ offices across the National Capital Region; one from the Inter-Agency Council against Trafficking Operations center; two from the Witness Protection Program office; one from the DOJ Ilocos regional office; 10 from Central Luzon, and seven from Calabarzon and Mimaropa.

The latest figures brought the number of confirmed infections among DOJ workers to 994 since the pandemic started in 2020.

The number of DOJ infected with coronavirus in 2020 and 2021 were at 103 and 750, respectively

Close to 98 percent of its 6,254 employees across the country have been vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra earlier said the department plans to revert to a smaller on-site workforce in the coming days amid the surge in coronavirus infections in the country.

Last week, Malacañang has issued a memorandum circular (MC) enumerating requirements and procedures for reducing the on-site workforce in government offices below the minimum that was set under the Alert Level System (ALS).

On Wednesday, the country logged 32,246 new infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 3,058,634.

The total tally includes 2,797,816 recoveries, 208,164 active cases and 52,654 deaths. (PNA)
