ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development - Zamboanga Peninsula (DSWD-9) distributed over PHP1 million worth of family food packs (FFPs) to families affected by the health pandemic in one of the towns in Zamboanga del Sur.
Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD-9 information officer, said Saturday a total of 2,000 family food packs have been distributed to families affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the municipality of Guipos, one of the province’s 26 towns.
Guipos, which comprises 17 barangays, is a fourth-class municipality with a population of 21,738 as of the 2020 census.
Salvador said DSWD Regional Director Sittie Raifah Pamaloy-Hassan led the distribution of the family food packs Friday to beneficiaries in Guipos.
Hadja Jamila Arasid, DSWD-9’s disaster reduction and management division chief, and Guipos Mayor Vicente Cajete joined Hassan in the distribution of the food packs.
Hassan has reminded the beneficiaries of the food packs to continuously comply with the basic health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19 amid the threats posed by the Omicron variant.
The town has 11 active cases of Covid-19 as of January 13 based on the data of the Zamboanga del Sur Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
The national IATF-EID has placed the province of Zamboanga del Sur under Alert Level 3 effective January 16 until January 31. (PNA)
