TACLOBAN CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office has sent more police officers to Samar province for a peacekeeping mission ahead of the campaign period of local candidates.
Some 244 policemen formally accepted their temporary assignment on Thursday through a ceremony at the regional headquarters here, the PNP said in a media release on Friday.
Of the number, 28 are women included in the deployment to the different town and city police stations in Samar province.
They will be temporarily stationed in Catbalogan City, the provincial capital.
"We want to ensure that no untoward incidents or election-related incidents to happen in Eastern Visayas. We have a task ahead to keep the peace before, during and after the elections and we will be measured in our performance on how we have maintained and kept the peace,” PNP Eastern Visayas Regional Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac said.
This is the second batch of policemen sent to Samar for a peacekeeping mission to form part of the Regional Special Operations Task Group (RSOTG) – Samar.
On March 2, some 235 personnel were assigned in Calbayog City, Gandara, Sta. Margarita, Matuguinao, and San Jorge towns. These areas are known for election-related violence.
The PNP regional office reactivated the RSOTG-Samar tasked to ensure this year's peaceful and orderly elections in the province. (PNA)
