More than 2K households to join first ICT survey in NorMin

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - About 2,587 households in Northern Mindanao were identified in the survey to be conducted by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in collaboration with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for the Women and Information Communications Technology (ICT) Development Index (WIDI).

In an interview Friday, Cristine T. Gallopin, WIDI regional focal person, said the WIDI survey will deploy 13 field interviewers to cover the number of households in Northern Mindanao (Region 10).

"Field interviewers utilized for the WIDI survey are not newly-hired and have previous experience with other household surveys of the PSA," she said.

She added that eligible respondents or participants of the survey were determined based on the criterion of women aged 15 years old and over of the sample households.

In a recent statement, Janith Aves, PSA-10 acting chief, said the WIDI survey is the first national survey on ICT that focuses on women and girls in the country.

The PSA started the conduct of the survey on January 31, 2022 and targets to complete it by February 26, 2022.

Gallopin said the tentative schedule for the release of the preliminary results of the survey will be in December 2022.

The survey aims to gather baseline data on women and girls on their ICT access, use, and skills.

"Information to be generated from the survey will be used by the government in crafting appropriate ICT-based policies and programs aimed to empower women through the use of ICTs," the PSA-10 statement said. (PNA)
