NHA accepts PhilID as valid proof of identity

DAVAO CITY – More institutions are accepting the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card as valid proof of identity while Filipinos continue to register for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

In an October 13 post, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) announced that the National Housing Authority (NHA) will start accepting the PhilID in applications for housing programs.

The NHA is mandated to provide housing for low-income families but documentary requirements, including a valid identification, prevent applicants from availing of programs.

With its commitment to accept the PhilID in transactions, more low-income families are expected to qualify for NHA benefits.

The Department of Foreign Affairs accepts the PhilID for passport transactions while the Department of Social Welfare and Development database will also rely on the national ID of beneficiaries.

More than five million PhilID cards were released for delivery last month.

The PSA continues to call on government agencies and private entities to accept the PhilID as stipulated under Republic Act No. 11055 or the Philippine Identification System Act.

Signed by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in August 2018, the law aims to establish a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident aliens.

The national ID shall be a valid proof of identity that shall be a means of simplifying public and private transactions, enrollment in schools, and the opening of bank accounts.

It also seeks to boost efficiency, especially in dealing with government services where people will only need to present one ID during transactions. (PNA)
