ZAMBOANGA CITY – The city government has allocated PHP19.8 million for this year’s implementation of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) during vacation.
Uldarico Fabian, the City Social Welfare and Development Office assistant chief, said Friday that this year’s SPES will have a total of 2,321 slots.
“Those qualified to avail of the program are 15 to 30-year-old students enrolled during the current school year and also the out-of-school-youths who intend to continue education in the coming school year,” he said.
Fabian said the program will be from June 19 to July 14 for the first batch of 1,222 college students, while the second batch will begin on July 17 and end Aug. 11 for 1,099 high school students.
Each of the qualified students will receive a salary of PHP11,379 for a 20-day work or PHP568.95 daily.
SPES is jointly implemented by the city government and the Department of Labor and Employment at 60 percent and 40 percent appropriations, respectively.
The program aims to assist poor, but deserving students and out-of-school youth to pursue their education by providing them income through employment. (PNA)
